Valentino Spring/Summer 2019

Valentino’s spring/summer 2019 runway show did an excellent job of layering “outdated” concepts with new-wave fashion movements, resulting in a collection that is nostalgic in its visuals but modern by design. Oversized zip up hoodies and hats fit great with some of the more modern, button down shirts and accessories that were forged during the bling era of rap music. A homage, almost. I particularly loved the multi color pink and blue oversized jacket, as it stayed true to its nostalgic roots but also was not afraid to move into a new, fresher direction on the color wheel. I do believe that a lot of the outfits seen within this runway show could fit well into a man’s closet, but perhaps some of the garments may seen oddly outdated in practice and only remain charmingly outdated in principle.
