Prabal Gurung Spring/Summer 2019

A bold showcase of bright, assertive neon colors mixed into a global theme of some of the world’s most iconic flags, Prabal Gurung’s spring/summer 2019 runway show was far more consistent with their theme than actual quality. Although the garments are typically very well put together, some of the colors seemed incredibly impractical for the average consumer to actually wear, and even on artistic merit alone nothing is particularly interesting. It is not surprising that some of the best pieces were the most reserved, such as the purple and silver color-blocked jacket, but even these slight detours into accessibility do not take away from the shortcomings of this runway show. I think a man would feel hard pressed to find anything within this collection to add to his own wardrobe, and it is saddening that Prabal Gurung’s show can not seem to tip into the artistic side either.
