Advanced Audio: Apple’s AirPods Pro (2nd generation)

Apple's latest AirPods release is redefining the way you use your wireless headphones. The 2nd generation AirPods Pro are “magic, remastered” thanks to the many upgrades and new features.

The AirPods Pro most exciting feature is the personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking. Spatial audio technology is a 3D audio effect that allows the sound to follow your movement, allowing the sound to project from anywhere. Along with spatial audio, the head tracking feature helps to create a “theater-like” experience, as it creates the feeling that the sound is surrounding you.

In addition to the surround-sound feature, the 2nd generation AirPods Pro also has active noise cancellation and adaptive transparency. The noise cancellation feature helps to block outside noise, while the adaptive transparency technology lets you hear the outside world. Both features balance out your every need for wireless headphones. Noise cancellation helps cancel out all noise to help you focus on whatever you are listening to, while the adaptive transparency feature can block aloud sounds like sirens or construction work while still allowing you to listen to the world around you.

Listening is not the only thing these AirPods improve, your voice will be heard clearer with the special acoustic mesh that covers each AirPod’s inset microphone. The inset microphone in each earbud helps minimize wind noise when you are on a call, ensuring your voice is always heard. Your voice on phone calls isn’t the only place your sound experience is being improved, with the HD voice quality for FaceTime feature. The newest AirPods Pro have a specialized speech codec and uses support from the personalized spatial audio to make individual or group FaceTime calls more “true to life than ever.”

Your music’s sound quality will be better than ever with the newest AirPods Pro with the uniquely Apple-designed dynamic driver, which is powered by a custom amplifier to perfectly detail every tone and beat. These AirPods Pro also include the adaptive EQ feature that automatically tunes music to your ears. This tuning feature is possible because of the inward-facing microphones that detect what you are hearing and then adjust low to midrange frequencies to help deliver all the details in any song, all in real time.

Watch the magic of the new AirPods Pro

The new physical design of the AirPods Pro has been refined to place direct sound into your ears. The new contoured and shortened stem help with a comfortable fit and include the new force center. A simple press of this small button helps to play, pause, skip through songs, or answer and end calls. The AirPods Pro Lightning Charging Case and MagSafe charging case are all also waterproof, destined to withstand anything, “from rain to workouts.” The cases themselves have also been upgraded, as they give the AirPods 30 hours of listening time with one charge.

Once charged, the 2nd generation AirPods Pro instantly connects to your iPhone or iPad. They will also seamlessly connect to any device linked to your iCloud account, meaning you can listen to music on your Mac and pick up a FaceTime call on your iPhone without having to switch devices. The superior sense of detection in the latest AirPods Pro has an advanced skin-detect sensor that knows the difference between your ear and other surfaces. Ultimately stopping music when you take your AirPods out, and only resuming when you place them back in your ears.

If you misplace your AirPods, finding them has never been easier, with the help of the Find My app. Once open on your device, you can see how close they are with features like proximity view, separation alerts (if they are out of Bluetooth range) or have them play a sound to locate them.
