Vetements Spring/Summer 2019

Feeling a bit scattered by design, Vetements’ spring/summer 2019 runway show appeared to suffer from an identity crisis. A few consistencies shined throughout the show, such as oversized sleeves and overcoats, but nothing of substance really tied the show together as a cohesive collection. Military jackets took the stage after winter wear with no shirts, and the progression of the show suffered as a result of this lack of identity. I particularly did not enjoy the wedding dress inspired garment towards the end, as it almost represented the entirety of the show’s main issue: it did not know what to convey towards the audience. A few of the more simple pieces could fit into a man’s wardrobe, but I think it may be best to just avoid this collection and wait for something a bit more put together.
