Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2019

Doing a fantastic job of creating large amounts of contrast between the garments of an outfit, Roberto Cavalli finds a sweet spot for experimentation. Jackets are often different from the shirts underneath, giving off an odd feeling of displacement that ultimately turns into comfort when the matching colors begin to draw your attention. I particularly enjoy the solid gray suit underneath the wildly patterned silver overcoat, helping to define this theme of contrast. Unfortunately, artistic admiration is really all I have for this collection. The pieces are expertly put together, but they remain very left field for the average consumer and do not seem like something a man could realistically put into his closet. I wish there was more room for accessibility within this collection, but it became obvious as the show went on that Roberto Cavalli was more concerned with artistic expression than personal practicality.
