Giorgio Armani Spring/Summer 2019

Perhaps a little bit too simplistic for its own good, Giorgio Armani’s spring/summer 2019 runway show presented a visually pleasant array of garments, but felt very safe and by the books compared to the Italian luxury brand’s previous works. However, I must give credit where credit is due and admit I enjoyed the composition of the garments and how one color often dominated an outfit, surrounded by nothing but complemented shades. I grew a bit of an internal struggle viewing this show, as I do think there is some artistic ability necessary to curate such a large runway presentation around such simplistic designs, but as someone who is attempting to view this event in context of its location (surrounded by hundreds of other wonderful designers) I can’t help but feel like Armani played the entire situation a bit safe. Specifically, I did not care for all dark gray suits which dominated the show early on, setting the tone in an odd way. Any man could fit these pieces snuggly into his wardrobe as they don’t branch out into the avant garde side of the runway fashion world, but they may not be turning any heads either.
