What To Wear For Summer 2022

Gary Yeowell

Summer is almost here and before you know it, pools will be packed with oversized floaties, and yachts will be overflowing with businessmen in whiteboard shorts. Of course, with a new season comes a new style of clothing. To accommodate for the rising temperatures and the need to go on as many vacations as possible, you need to curate your closet to fit the new seasonal lifestyle.

After scouring multiple fashion trend websites and browsing through summer 2022 menswear runway shows, I have compiled a list of the top five most prevalent summer trends we are sure to see by the beach this year. I also found garments that match the trends while staying affordable enough for you to add to your own closet.

From Top Left to Right: ASOS, Ssense, asos, Ted Baker London, ASOS, River Island, H&M, & bonobos

  • Origami Clothing: Clothing featuring alluring cut-outs was a hot commodity in Y/Project’s and Rick Owen’s summer 2022 menswear collections. This trend accentuates your favorite pieces of skin and casual cutouts will help to keep you cooler in the hotter temperatures.

If you want to grab your very own alluring cut-out garment check out the black lace relaxed long sleeve t-shirt ($30) from ASOS. It’s flirty and fancy enough to wear to a hip outdoor cocktail party.

If you plan on trying this trend out for the office, keep it professional by wearing a top with discreet cutouts that you can slip a blazer over if your boss happens to walk past your desk. A good example of this is the Heliot Emil black deconstructed t-shirt ($180) from Ssense.

  • Make your color palette standout: Bold colors will be all the rave this summer. From neon-blue two-piece suits to neon green jumpers, any amount of stand-out color combinations is possible.

A good outfit to wear to blend in with the mass of colored menswear garments, but also to stand out, is a pair of sage green off-duty pants ($99) from Bonobos and a pink short sleeve jersey pique shirt ($130) from Ted Baker London. This outfit is discreetly comfortable due to the linen materials and the tie waistband of the pants, but it still looks professional enough for the workplace.

  • Feeling off-duty while looking on-duty: Summer is all about being comfortable, and this year men are embracing comfortability by wearing knit materials. Things like knit shorts and knit tops are key items to buy for this trend. Also, crocheted button-up shirts are a great way to stay comfy and classy.

An example outfit would be a pair of sunset printed slim fit knit shorts ($60) and an 0range slim fit print knit polo shirt ($65) both from River Island. This outfit is the definition of summer with quirky colors and a summer sunset faded pattern. The best part is it’s all made from knit fabrics.

  • Go as low as you can go: Low necklines are another scandalous trend for summer 2022. There’s just something about showing off the sternum that gets everyone into the summer spirit. Just make sure if you go out in the sun you slather on the sunscreen, so you don’t end up with a weird tan line.

A good low-neckline top that you can wear to work as well as for pleasure is the white overheard viscose shirt ($35) from ASOS. It’s loose enough for a day off, but you can also tuck it into a pair of black slacks for a more professional look.

  • Easy one-pieces: When you have a bad eye for matching colors for a monochromatic ensemble, throw on a one-piece instead. For summer 2022, jumpsuits and one-piece suits are going to be very popular according to Sacai’s and Ermenegildo Zegna’s runway shows. These one-pieces can consist of single, smooth pants and a top or a combined pants and top with a built-in belt.

To try out this trend check out the cotton twill jumpsuit ($149) from H&M. It’s comfortable and perfect for a quick trip to the grocery store.

All in all, summer 2022 will be packed with fun activities and hopefully, by trying one or two of these trends, you can quickly get dressed every morning and enjoy the rest of the day, stress-free and in the sun.
