Theresa May - Speech At conservative party conference 2016

The PM is trying to end infighting on Day 1 by unveiling a Great Repeal Bill and announcing when Britain will leave the EU

Theresa May pulled the big rabbit out of her hat today as she took the major step of personally launching the Tory Party Conference in Birmingham.

The PM tried to end infighting on Day One by unveiling a Great Repeal Bill and announcing Article 50 will be triggered before the end of March 2017.

In a rare first-day speech to delegates she attacked MPs who want to vote on Brexit in Parliament as "insulting the intelligence of the British people". “They're not standing up for democracy, they’re trying to subvert it," she said.

She is being followed by Brexiteer ministers David Davis, Priti Patel and Boris Johnson.
