Zara: The Figure of the Future for Fashion

By the means of trendy clothing at affordable prices, Zara has carried the fashion industry into new heights of exposure and influence.  The brand’s most recent New York City shop, a multi-story warehouse located in Soho on Broadway, between Broome and Spring Street is a statue of this cause. Minimal in design — the small white script that signals its store presence almost makes the spot easy to miss if not on the hunt for the gigantic ash grey doors that salute Fashionistos and trend setters alike. Walk through these gates and not only experience, but receive a piece of the fashion industry.

Average Price Range: The month of August tags a time of transition. Zara is knee deep in its annual summer sale, as well as navigating its floors into new collections for fall. This path allows an agreeable passage for retail shopping at summer’s best prices — $20, and a preview for fall’s most consumed product, starting as low as $36. Sale or not, all pieces are fashion forward and coveted. From the basic striped t-shirt to wooly double-breasted knit coat (Below-Left, $259), Zara brings the high-fashion, runway pieces into existence of everyday life.

To experience the majestic mayhem of shopping Zara’s Men’s section in downtown New York, take the store’s escalator downstairs to the basement level. Reach this floor and explore a profusion of fall ready pieces, launched throughout various collections. Three quarters of the store proposed denim. Jackets with patches ($90)— fun and youthful peace signs and Western influence in which band of bikers could relate all decorate vintage inspired pieces. 

Skinny fit jeans, ripped at the knees, bleached and pleated in spots along the thigh, corresponding to a knee zipped style ($80), designate a band of biker jeans. Such collections offer a revival of denim in the eyes of big spenders and trend setters. This scene welcomes majority of the shopping arena.

And yet, almost as to balance the fashion-forward looks, Zara offers a collection of oxford shirts (Below-Left, $40), skinny trousers a (Below-Right, $60) and blazers to suit a wardrobe from the young professional, fit for the workingman. These items of formal attire bring Zara into the forefront of fashion. The brand’s consideration for these pieces speaks to the brand’s mission.  The mode of classic menswear — the pieces that build a man’s wardrobe— is a stable concept offered for the Zara Man.

The Good: Shop Zara's graphic t-shirts (Top-Right, $30). These pieces are fun, artistic and will flash a detail of character to any outfit. At the point where conversation starts around your graphic t-shirt, you then will realize the investment. The relationship between affordability and quality speaks to these pieces, assistance appreciated after good, light-hearted dialogue over fashion and aesthetic. Nothing beats compliment of admiration for style. 

The Bad: Accessories truly additional pieces, and yet fail to serve as bonuses to outfits for the brand. Bow ties ($26), hats ($40) and shoes ($36) from the accessorizes department are consistently a hit or miss. These items are exception for a quick fix solution, but far from an investment in fashion. Put that penny towards a cool coat ($90).

Average Rating: 2 cufflinks: Although the brand provides apparel in an affordable fashion, there is nothing special about shopping at its haute hub. Do not expect to have a special shopping experience with Zara. For the employees roam the store without assuming their responsibility for customer experience unless asked, or better yet, assigned a personal shopping experience, in which they are entrusted with an opportunity to offer fashion advice. Otherwise this team is far from quick to engage in conversation. This deep wound in the character of the store harms the experience of shopping the brand. The atmosphere is consistently busy, thus depicting a fast fashion environment; employees seem to have their own agenda and appear to work without interest in customer interaction.

Therefore, one agenda is clear. Presented in the layout of the land: smooth and easy to navigate, there is a motivation to get guests to shop with speed and efficiency. This is how Zara shops. The future of fashion is public, it can be obtained, and intentionally private, a personal articulation of style intended for personal expression.
