Yohji Yamamoto Spring/Summer 2018

A Yohji Yamamoto look can typically be characterized by a few things: all black, generous in volume and fluidity, and distinctively Japanese cool. Such description was indeed found in the collection itself, with several variations of the Yamamoto uniform rendered even in the designer's look himself when he went to take a bow. But interspersed throughout were many multi-colored leather biker jackets, graffiti-printed tops, and painterly brushstrokes indicating are more artistic mood and inspiration for this season. Blown up faces of Japanese women and girls also appeared on oversized t-shirts and knits, ranging from the traditional high-society type to a harrowing, enigmatic version. The pieces that registered the most were the looks that infused both elements of art meets subdued, with monochromatic ensembles in light hues and pastel shades delivering on all levels.
