Man on the Move: What Season is it Anyway?

Tommy Hilfiger S/S 2017

With the frustratingly erratic weather, dressing has become a bit of a challenge. Especially considering those of us who, on the spirit of wishful thinking, transferred our cooler climatic wardrobes for our warm weather staples (maybe just a little too soon). Now, it may just be the sartorial volition of the creative team at Tommy Hilfiger to mix autumn and summer in one ensemble. What they have initiated is a very complex and dialogue- inducing stylistic move. The only way to interpret a look that represents confronting a chilly, probably even rainy day on top and going to the nearest beach on the bottom, is to be just as courageous and nonsensical in dressing akin. At the very least, heads will turn!

Style Advice: Our approach to this unorthodox spring head-to-toe is to reconfigure it completely. We trade the heavily structured outerwear for a softer, lightweight field jacket in discernible green by Gant. Underneath we suggest a Kent collar white polo knit in 100 percent cotton, as designed by Massimo Dutti (at this point we ought to have a minority stake in the company). The latter is equal parts breathable and sustaining. COS’s technical cotton mix shorts in a khaki hue is the neutral underpinning with meticulous details. Camouflage slides from Urban Outfitters are the defining piece that seamlessly coordinates the color schemes. To successfully play off the on-trend pattern of our footwear, a tote in white from Zara with underlining camouflage handles is the item for the job. We appear ready for any season at worse and confused at best. No one can knock us for our adventurous spirit. Or for how darn good we look!

Must-Have: A source of obsession or passionately bemoaned, summer slides have become a necessity for a few warm weather seasons now. With Gucci (the mecca of all things current, cool and worthy of duplication), Puma by Fenty, Adidas and Fendi creating embellished and even dressy options, slides have been palatable footwear as of late. With a fresh pedicure, of course, letting the toes breathe as humidity rises and sweat becomes inescapable is highly recommended. Why not do so in the summer’s hottest (pun intended) shoe trend? If one is fully on board with this current style trope, then go for designer. Acne Studios is always a step ahead of the pack and their Maurice slides are evident as such.

Industry Update: With the release of his first solo album and hit single “Sign of the Times”, Harry Styles has been on everyone’s radar. Apart from his British charm and soothingly raspy vocals, his sartorial distinction has added another dimension to his overall appeal. Maybe that is selling it a little too short. Styles is having a major moment and his noteworthy rock and dandy fashion choices are the talk of the industry. From pink plaid suits to Gucci paisley numbers paired with pussy-bow blouses, to graphic hoodies with skinny black denim and tan suede Chelsea boots, Styles is setting a standard for the new wave of male pop stars. Men looking to venture out of their step and repeat should take keen notice. This teeny bopper gone rogue knows exactly what he is doing.
