Man on the Move: An Artistic Autumn Ensemble

English novelist George Eliot described her favorite season as “Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” As the season transitions to autumn, so does style. This includes rusty colors, the beginning of light layers and quality wool fabrics. The latter is what Ermenegildo Zegna strives for in every piece it creates and each look it puts together.

Style Advice: Zegna’s style is dominated by the seasonal color of rust, which is a brownish red hue, similar to leaves in the fall. It’s the color that most represents the season and it also happens to be a beautifully stylish look for a suit. It’s so easy to pull off and yet it’s rare enough that you’re bound to turn heads with its subtle patterns. Get a similar look with this slim-fitting option from Hugo Boss. This versatile color allows for you to easily dress it up with a shirt and tie or go casual with a polo or even a solid T-shirt. Of course, you have the option to go for the advanced style swagger move of layering it over a turtleneck, like this Uniqlo version. If that isn’t bold enough, add some serious footwear to the look with these chunky black boots with contrasting white soles from the brand that knows boots like no other, Timberland. Accessorize the look with red wool gloves from Paul Smith and if you’re really bold you can add the hidden cross body bag like this Calvin Klein version for a fashion forward look.

Must-Have: Every guy has a wallet. Whether or not he has any money in it is a different story, but we all need something to store our IDs, cards and cash. Studies have shown that thick wallets placed in the back pocket while sitting can actually cause some back issues in the long run. So many designers these days have slimmer options that you may want to consider. After all, you don’t really need your dentist’s business card or that free-ice-cream-after-10-visits card that you never redeem. Opt for a business card size wallet like this must-have by Louis Vuitton. The classic pattern is mixed with the modern and masculine color scheme. Don’t be fooled by the smaller size. It’ll hold several cards and cash without getting too plump. If you want to spend less on the wallet so you can have more money to actually put inside it, there are several stylish options out there including this one from Herschel Supply Co.

Industry Update: Let’s take a moment to remember Yves Saint Laurent co-founder Pierre Bergé, who passed away on Sept. 8 at the age of 86. Known to be the partner (both in business and pleasure) of Yves, Bergé was a catalyst to the success of the fashion house and a pioneer in the industry. Although Saint Laurent was the creative genius and visionary behind the brand, Bergé helped bring notoriety to it with his strong business acumen and expansion efforts, and carried Saint Laurent’s vision after Yves’ passing in 2008.
