Dries Van Noten Spring/Summer 2018

Dries Van Noten, the master of understated decadence, put forth another stellar collection thanks to his continued penchant for rich, muted colors and textures while staying in tune with modern times. His signature paisley prints and brocade separates were transposed upon elegant silk tops and high-waisted trousers. The mood of menswear as of late is a deviation from super fitted garments and skinny silhouettes to more relaxed, easy pieces with insouciant flair Van Noten is always very much in tune with modern dressing and captured this mood effortlessly. The slouchy, baggy sweaters over barely visible shorts shown here are just one example of Van Noten’s skill in utilizing proportions in ways that spark curiosity. Super lightweight trench coats present a viable opportunity for easy layering over those long blazers and flimsy t-shirts. Most all of the looks were rendered in dark, moody earth tones that provided a smart framework to emphasize the small, ornate detailing and embroidery Van Noten is known for. Easy, yet polished, no fuss daywear is hard to come by these days, but men will revel in the amount of choices laid out in this knockout collection.
