Frankie Morello Spring/Summer 2018

The Frankie Morello Spring 2018 show featured a linear runway filled with water, but the models remained laser sharp and focused as they navigated the catwalk unbothered by the splashing from their steps. An aquatic theme emerged as blues and whites encompassed a collection that ran the gamut from casual leathers and jeans to slim suits and even skinnier ties. Embroidered tribal prints prominently displayed on the back of jackets were a welcome touch, but the show’s best pieces were the destroyed jeans and distressed denim jackets layered under other jackets. However, speaking of layering, the excessive necklaces and wire headpieces were a bit much, and the discordant maximalist print-heavy ensembles seemed random and not in unison with the rest of the looks. A black leather jacket with plastic panels and padded shoulders was the lone standout piece that had the best impact. That said, the collection seemed to focus more on the superficiality of the presentation and less on the actual clothes. The super skinny ties are super outdated, and whatever potential this collection had as a whole got obscured by gimmicks and theatrics.
