Fendi Fall/Winter 2017

The house of Fendi is instituting a new wave of color blocking. The clothes presented during their Fall/Winter 2017 menswear show were upbeat. There was a rhythm in the styling. A sort of cadenced language that could only be communicated to the ardent consumers. This is Silvia Venturini Fendi’s dissertation on the culture of Instagram hashtag style. In diverging from the banality of minimalism as high fashion, this collection was an uproar of color in the boldest shades. Think pink zipped sweaters under leopard patterned coats, and black slides with the label’s name in burnt orange. Venturini Fendi deftly flirted with femininity, as is evident in the size of the bags carried, the pouches and details like fur sleeves on wool/cashmere overcoats. Every item that came down the neon lit runway was relevant and forward thinking. How effectively what was shown will translate into the pragmatism that is cemented into menswear is up for debate. At the very least it will dare consumers to step outside of the box when purchasing go-to silhouettes.
