Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2018

It would be hard to pinpoint any country Louis Vuitton men’s designer Kim Jones has not been to. His passion for travel and experiencing different cultures dovetails seamlessly with the brand he designs for, one rooted in the spirit of globetrotting. With so many global references Jones can choose from, one can imagine how difficult in can be to hone in on one theme and translate that into a collection. And yet, his lineup for Spring 2018 is just that – a reference to subtropical islands with a bit of urban city landscape thrown in for good measure. The city aspect was evident in fluid, languid tailoring such as unstructured elongated jackets and cropped pleated trousers. The island aspect was a bit more literal, but with a twist. Punchy colors in exotic prints and colorways were given the Vuitton treatment whether it was on skin-tight scuba leggings or color blocked neoprene wet suits. The juxtaposition of these two elements underscored the brand’s ability to utilize all the resources it has available in a contemporary way. And wherever the Vuitton customer chooses to vacation to next, you can bet these monogrammed oversized trunks and bags will be on the backs of many of these men.
