So, you’ve found yourself single. You had a heart-rending breakup, or maybe it’s just been a while since you even were in a relationship. Either way, you now bear the label that horrifies most grandmothers: single. The world has taught us that being single is detestable if you aren’t paired up then you are weird. I’m here to tell you that being single is not the end of the world, in fact, it’s your first step into a much larger one. With all the free time and money saved it can change your entire life.

Most relationships cause people to hemorrhage money. Dates, gifts, and exclusive getaways can rack up quite the bill. Can you imagine all the things you could do with that extra money? A new flat screen? A dirt bike? You could even donate it to a charity if you wanted! Just as the possibilities can be endless with your times, they can be so with your money. Staying single will save you quite a bit of moolah in the long term and who doesn’t like to have more money?

Being single gives you time to do what you want to do, whether you enjoy skydiving, scuba diving or even just joining a baseball league. Relationships are great and all, but they require a lot of time to invest in them. Often times, you aren’t free to really pursue your hobbies and desires and for some people that is ok. If you find yourself single, count this as a blessing because a lot of people would pay to have the free time that you do! Read a book, go on a vacation, learn a new skill! The possibilities are endless!

With all of this time and money, you could do a lot. Working on yourself is not a very common thing these days. Many people cite busy schedules or lack of motivation to really be the best them they can be. As a single man, what are you waiting for? You can really find out what you want in life. You can focus on your inner self and discover your passions. Many men decide to get a gym membership and clean themselves up physically, you could even take up Ice Hockey! A huge benefit to staying single is the ability to transform yourself into the man you want to be. You have the time and the money, now get the motivation to focus on you.

As long as we are talking about transforming, let’s talk about transforming your work life. Only 53% of Americans enjoy their job, which leaves quite a bit of people who really only tolerate it and 15% who hate their work.  Being a single man can give you the time to climb out of the cesspool of those who hate where they are at and really follow your dreams. Put extra effort into work and get that promotion. Take a class, get your masters, even change careers! We don’t live forever and if you don’t like what you are doing, then find something you do like. Being single can help you to really make those career goals happen.

Friends and family typically take a backseat when one develops a new romantic relationship, and that can really hurt a person’s social life. As a single man, you can hang out with whoever you want and there is freedom to build your relationships however you desire. Call up your old college roommate and go for a night of fun. Hang out with some co-workers or even spend some time with your dear old mom. The common stereotype for single men is that they are lonely, and I think it’s time to start breaking these false assumptions. Single men can have a rich and satisfying social life, one that doesn’t revolve completely around a single person. They can have deeper and meaningful friendships and they can really build lasting memories with family.

This world we live in is a mess. People are dying and starving in the streets. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but this is the reality of the world we live in. As a single man, you have the power to impact this world for the better. What do you really care about? If you love animals, for example. You should consider volunteering at an animal shelter. If you want to feed the hungry, then try a soup kitchen. There are so many ways that we can help out our fellow man and in the process become better human beings. Take the time you have a single man to really give back to your community. I promise you won’t regret it.

Being single is not a curse, no matter what your mom says. It is a chance, an opportunity. Be the man you want to be, don’t let anything hold you down. There is so much to do and see out in this big world of ours. Don’t let your singleness be wasted! Do everything that you want, and in the end, you may just end up falling in love with yourself.
